Tour Scotland 4K early Autumn travel video of part of a road trip drive, with Scottish bagipes music up Lochee Road on ancestry, genealogy, history visit to Dundee, Tayside, Britain, United Kingdom. Lochee Road is historically significant as the primary route into Dundee from the north west, with the settlement of Lochee itself originating from ancient farmlands and cottages before its rapid expansion during the 18th and 19th-century Industrial Revolution. The area's history is strongly tied to the Cox family and their pioneering jute mills. The area has ancient origins, with evidence of settlement dating back to the Bronze Age. The name " Lochee " is thought to derive from the " eye of the Loch, " referring to the former Loch Balgay. Prior to the Industrial Revolution, the region consisted mainly of farms and cottages, with a primitive layout along the road connecting to Dundee and the Lochee Burn. The road itself was a crucial artery, with a significant new highway built in the late 18th century to serve Lochee and the Strathmore region, designed to be a more direct and easier route than older roads. Meteorological Autumn or Fall is different from standard and astronomical Autumn and begins September 1 and ends November 30.
