Doonie Point is located South of the village of Muchalls and North of Stonehaven. The headland offers views of the rugged North Sea coastline. Doonie Point lies just east of the Causey Mounth, an ancient medieval trackway that was the only passable coastal route between Stonehaven and Aberdeen. The Marquess of Montrose and William Keith, 7th Earl Marischal, led a Covenanter army along this route in 1639
