The area was part of the Cromarty estates from the 17th century and has connections to various clans and families. Lochbroom saw significant impacts during World War II, with the conscription of men, including fishermen, and the cessation of fishing as a reserved occupation. A period of prosperity in the early 18th century, before the 1745 Jacobite rising, saw agricultural improvements .
