The name Ceres signifies " place to the west " from the Gaelic Siar meaning " west ", probably in relation to St Andrews. Alexander Pratt was born in Ceres, Fife, around 1853, the son of another Alexander Pratt, a master shoemaker, and his wife Barbara Lumsden. Barbara died in 1860 leaving Alexander senior with seven children to look after He married again to Mary Anderson in 1862 and by 1871 young Alexander was living with three of his stepmother’s unmarried sisters in Ceres and working as a linen yarn bleacher. In 1877 he married Margaret Colville in Dundee and, by 1881, the couple were living in Leuchars with a three year-old daughter and a newborn son. At this time Alexander was working as a coachman.and gardener at Leuchars Lodge. Alexander Pratt replaced Tom Jamieson at the local St Michael’s course, laid out as 9 holes by Old Tom Morris in 1903, after Jamieson went north to Wick in 1908. Alexander died after being struck by a passing train near Leuchars on 25 November 1910. Although there was a report to the Procurator Fiscal there is no indication whether this was an accident or suicide. Thomas ramsay born in Ceres in 1695 and married Agnes Russell in Newburn 1720, she was born in 1699. Robert Wallace was born in 1654, in Ceres, Fife, Scotland, United Kingdom. He married Agnes Black on 15 April 1683, in Ceres, Fife, Scotland, United Kingdom. They were the parents of at least 9 sons and 3 daughters. John Scott was born on 26 Apr 1784 in Ceres, Fife, Scotland. He was christened on 2 May 1784 in Ceres. He married Margaret Honeyman, who was born on 3 Aug 1788 in Largo, on 4th of February 1873 in Craigrothie and John died on 3 Mar 1873.
