Kingskettle or simply Kettle a small village and parish in Fife. It is situated in the Howe of Fife, around a mile south of Ladybank. Robert Peebles was born in 1796 in Kettle and married on June 5, 1819 to Margaret Millie born in 1799 in Kingskettle. Charles Lindsay was born on 22 February 1899 in Kingskettle. There was for many years a Singing Kettle Shop in Kingskettle. David Rollo, a Handloom Linen Weaver, was born in February 1779 in Kingskettle, Scotland. He died on 13 Aug 1857. David married Helen Lindsay daughter of Andrew Lindsay and Elizabeth Forbes on 19 March 1808 in Kingskettle. Helen was born in Sep 1786 in Kettle, and was christened on 1 October 1786 in Kettle,. Their son Andrew Rollo, a Linen Weaver, was born in 1814 and died on 5 Nov 1889. A Catherine Rollo was born in 1818 and married James Skinner, a Coal Merchant, son of George Skinner and Janet Muir, on 3 Apr 1841 in Kettle, James was born on 10 December 1817 in Kettle. He died on 8 July 1895. Howe of Fife is the name given to the fertile farming area of central Fife in the valley of the River Eden between Strathmiglo and Cupar. The term howe' is derived from an old Scots word meaning a hollow, valley or flat tract of land. Kingskettle Parish Church was designed by architect George Angus in 1832. George was born in Meikleour in Perthshire in 1792. He had no university training but was apprenticed as an architect probably around 1802, probably in Dundee given his later connections to the town. He moved to 1 St Colme Street in Edinburgh in 1828 running an office from 165 Rose Street. In his final year his business address moved to 110 Princes Street facing onto Edinburgh Castle. He died at his home, 1 St Colme Street in Edinburgh's New Town on 8 June 1845 following a short illness. He was married to Jessie Smith, but his wife died young, possibly in childbirth. They had one daughter, also Jessie, who lived at 47 India Place after her father's death.
