It is the see of the Anglican Bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane, who is the ordinary of the Diocese of St Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane. The cathedral was built on the site of an older Dominican monastery and was one of the first to be built in Britain since the Reformation, both St. Columb's in Derry, Ireland and St. Paul's in London, England, are older, being consecrated in 1633 and 1710 respectively.
