Tour Scotland short 4K travel video clip of The New Town, with Scottish bagpipes music, on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit and trip to the central area of Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland, Britain, United Kingdom. It was built in stages between 1767 and around 1850, and retains much of its original neo classical and Georgian period architecture. Together with the West End of New Town, the New Town was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site alongside the Old Town in 1995. The idea of a New Town was first suggested in the late 17th century when the Duke of Albany and York, later King James VII and II, when resident Royal Commissioner at Holyrood Palace, encouraged the idea of having an extended regality to the north of the city and a North Bridge. He gave the city a grant. The decision to construct a New Town was taken by the city fathers, after overcrowding inside the walls of the Old Town reached breaking point and to prevent an exodus of wealthy citizens from the city to London, England. The Age of Enlightenment had arrived in Edinburgh, and the outdated city fabric did not suit the professional and merchant classes who lived there. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day. Find things to see and do in Scotland where you are always welcome. @tourscotland
