Midhowe Broch On History Visit To West Coast Of Island of Rousay In The Orkney Islands Scotland

Tour Scotland short travel video clip, with Scottish bagpipes music, of the exterior and interior of Midhowe Broch, an iron age broch located on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit and trip the west coast of the island of Rousay one of the Orkney Islands, Britain, United Kingdom. It was built some time in the last centuries BC. It occupies a naturally defensive site on a promontory. The name Midhowe means middle mound and this is just one of three brochs closely grouped together. Brochs are unique to Scotland, with more than than 500 surviving examples. Many stood alone, but brochs in Orkney and Caithness, including Midhowe and nearby Gurness, were surrounded by sizeable settlements. Rousay Scots: Rousee; Old Norse: Hrólfsey meaning Rolf's Island, is a small, hilly island about 1.9 miles North of Mainland, the largest island in the Orkney Islands. It is separated from mainland Orkney by Eynhallow Sound. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.
