Autumn Pictish Cross With Music On History Visit To Forteviot Perthshire Scotland

Tour Scotland 4K short Autumn travel video clip, with Scottish music, of the Pictish Cross in the centre of the village on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit and trip to Forteviot, Strathearn, Perthshire, Britain, United Kingdom. The village was a major Pictish royal centre from the middle of the 9th Century after it first became important as a regional ceremonial centre from the 8th Century. At its peak, Forteviot was the seat of Cinaed mac Ailpin, Kenneth, son of Alpin, whose descendants ruled Scotland until the 11th Century. Southern Pictland, today’s Angus, Fife and Perthshire, was the core of the Pictish kingdom, which was to become the medieval kingdom of the Scots. The Picts are well known for their artwork on large monumental sculptures. The people known as Picts were around for a period of about 600 years from roughly AD 300 to AD 900. Their tradition of carving stone endured for centuries, with Pictish symbols being added onto Christian sculptures. From AD 900 onwards, the Pictish kingdom and its rulers were replaced by people who no longer regarded themselves as Picts, but as people of Alba, the precursor to what we call Scotland.
