Old Photographs Friockheim Angus Scotland

Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Friockheim, a village in Angus. The birth of the village took place soon after 1814 when Thomas Gardyne of Middleton succeeded his brother as the laird of the lands of Friock and feued them to Mr John Andson, of Arbroath, who built a flax spinning mill and as proprietor-in-feu attracted many textile workers to come and settle on easy terms in what was at first known as Friock feus. Probably the only example of a Gaelic-German place-name, Friockheim was created as a set of feus for textile workers on the lands of Friock Mains in 1830. The Arbroath and Forfar Railway opened initially as a single track on 3 January, 1839. The line proceeded roughly north west to Frockheim then curved westwards through Lunnan Head where it turned southwestwards to Forfar, covering a distance of some fifteen miles.
