Tour Scotland short 4K sunny Spring travel video clip, with Scottish bagpipes music, of the exterior of General Register House on Princes Street on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit and trip to Edinburgh, Britain, United Kingdom. This was the first purpose built public records repository in the British Isles and is one of the oldest custom built archive buildings still in continuous use in the world. Scottish records of importance were previously held in Edinburgh Castle but James Douglas, 14th Earl of Morton in his capacity as Lord Clerk Register proposed a new building in the newly proposed New Town of Edinburgh around 1760. By 1803 the building was incomplete but was already concluded as inadequate in scale. In 1813 Archibald Elliot redesigned the front to conceal a new basement area, not in the original design. In 1822 Robert Reid was commissioned to redesign the north section to be more commodious and this section was eventually completed in 1834, sixty years after the project began. Spring season are March, April and May. However, for travelling at this time of year, I will be referring to April and May. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day. Find things to see and do in Scotland where you are always welcome.
