St Andrews harbour is an estuary haven formed in the tidal mouth of the Kinness Burn. A fishing harbour is mentioned as early as 1222, and another medieval record dates from 1363. The long pier was rebuilt in 1656 with stone largely taken from the Castle. The Fife Coastal Walking Path goes through St Andrews and runs from the Forth Estuary in the south, to the Tay Estuary in the north and stretches for 117 miles.
