Harbour And Signal Tower On History Visit To Coast Of Arbroath Angus Scotland

Tour Scotland short 4K Spring travel video clip of the harbour and Signal Tower on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit to the coast of Arbroath, Angus, Britain, United Kindom. In 1394 the Abbot John Gedy and the monks of Arbroath Abbey, and the townsmen of Arbroath, made an agreement with regard to the building of a harbour. Whatever the method of its construction, the first harbour was most probably a modest affair. In 1839, the old harbour was considerably improved, and was enlarged. Originally built in 1813, and designed by Robert Stevenson, the Signal Tower was used as a base of operations for the famous Bell Rock Lighthouse, the Signal Tower housed the families of the keepers stationed on the rock, along with the vital shore staff who ran the tender. The name Signal Tower comes from the signalling apparatus installed atop of the tower building that was used to communicate between the shore staff, the Master Of The Tender, and the keepers of the lighthouse. An identical set of signalling apparatus is installed atop the lighthouse itself. Installed within the Signal Tower was a small observatory outfitted with a powerful telescope; it was through this telescope that the signalling apparatus on the lighthouse was monitored during the day. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.
