Tour Scotland 4K Winter snow travel video, with Scottish music, of a road trip drive on Christmas Eve on the B847 often single track road on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit to the Highland, Britain, United kingdom. By the meteorological calendar, the first day of Winter is always 1st December in Scotland; ending on 28th of February. The road is bumpy with many twists and turns as it goes through Glen Errochty, a sparsely populated Scottish glen. The road often passes through trees, as it follows the route of an old military road built by General Wade military road. Lieutenant General George Wade, born 1673, died 1748, was appointed Commander in Chief of His Majesty's Forces in North Britain. Wade was charged with building a network of roads and bridges throughout the Scottish Highlands to aid the transport of men and equipment. The government of King George II was rightly concerned about the possibility of another Jacobite uprising following the 1715 rebellion and wanted to make sure that military transport was as efficient as possible in case of another revolt. Over the next 15 years, Wade oversaw the building of 250 miles of roads, the first engineered roads in Britain since the departure of the Romans in the early 5th century. To link those roads he also built over 40 bridges. A single track road or one lane road is a road that permits two way travel but is not wide enough in most places to allow vehicles to pass one another, although sometimes two compact cars can pass. This kind of road is common in rural areas across the United Kingdom and elsewhere. The term is widely used in Scotland, particularly the Highlands, to describe such roads. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day. Find things to see and do in Scotland where you are always welcome. When driving on Scottish roads in Scotland slow down and enjoy the trip
