This viaduct was built by engineers, Formans and McCall of Glasgow, contractors, Lucas and Aird of London, England, and steelworkers, Alexander Findlay and Company of Motherwell to carry the West Highland Railway Line, a subsidiary of the North British Railway, across the Allt Kinglas, Scottish Gaelic; Allt Chonoghlais, which is a significant tributary of the River Orchy. It opened on 11 August 1894, and remains in use. It is of lattice girder type and its length of 576 feet includes nine spans of 60 feet. it was built by hoisting the girders into position with cantilever lifting tackle.
