Summer Passenger Train Crossing Railway Bridge Over River Tay On Visit To Perth Perthshire Scotland

Tour Scotland 4K Summer short travel video clip of a diesel passenger train from Perth travelling to Dundee crossing the railway bridge over the River Tay on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit to Perth, Perthshire, Britain, United Kingdom. The Dundee and Perth Railway was a Scottish Railway company. It opened its line in 1847 from Dundee to a temporary station at Barnhill and extended to Perth station in 1849. The previous bridge was built on a curve of 15 chain radius and was of predominantly timber construction. Problems with the foundations of the structure necessitated its replacement, the new bridge being designed by the engineers of the Caledonian Railway and opened in 1863. The new structure, which remains in use, was built on a slightly easier curve of 17 chains and was, like its predecessor, designed to carry a single track. It comprises six iron girder spans to the East of Moncrieffe Island, ten stone arches on the island itself, and seven further girder spans to the West. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day. Find things to see and do in Scotland where you are always welcome.
