Telford Church With Music On History Visit To Island Of Berneray Outer Hebrides Scotland

Tour Scotland 4K travel video with Scottish music, of the Telford Church on the Island Of Berneray, Scottish Gaelic: Beàrnaraigh na Hearadh, on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit to the Outer Hebrides, Britain, United Kingdom. This church was built in 1829 as part of Thomas Telford's scheme of church building in the Highlands. The building is aligned roughly north/south and is T-plan. It is a typical Parliamentary Church layout with two round-headed doorways at the east front with two tall round headed window between the doorways. All the windows are round headed. The two gables have large windows. The west wing has windows on its north and south walls. The building was constructed in random rubble with the south and west wall roughcast. Berneray Parliamentary church was a Quoad sacra church which translates as concerning sacred matters, and refers in this context to a parish having only a religious function. There are two doors, both looking towards the coast. One was intended for use by the parishioners of Berneray, and the other for attendees from Pabbay, who would row to the island for services. Thomas Telford the builder of this church was born the son of a shepherd at Westerkirk, near Langholm, Dumfriesshire in August 1757.
