Tour Scotland 4K Spring travel video, with Scottish fiddle music, of a road trip drive on the A917 coast road on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit to the medieval Marketgate in Crail in the East Neuk of Fife. Crail became a Royal Burgh in the 12th century. Robert the Bruce granted permission to hold markets on a Sunday, in the Marketgait, where the Mercat Cross now stands in Crail. The decision caused such outrage in religious circles that John Knox delivered a sermon at Crail Parish Church in the Marketgait damning the fishermen of the East Neuk for working on a Sunday. Despite the protests, the markets were a huge success and were amongst the largest in Europe. The Tolbooth in the centre of the town has a characteristic tower and a European style roof, similar to buildings in Holland. West of the Marketgate is the High Street. Here you find the highly distinctive Golf Hotel, dating back to the early 1700. The Fife Coastal Walking Path goes through Crail and runs from the Forth Estuary in the south, to the Tay Estuary in the north and stretches for 117 miles. I was raised in the East Neuk. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day. When driving in Scotland slow down and enjoy the trip. The date for astronomical Spring is 20th March, ending on 21st June, while by the meteorological calendar, Spring starts on 1st March.
