Tour Scotland 4K Spring short travel video of the old church by the coast and sea on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit to St Monans, East Neuk of Fife. St Monans Church or Kirk is situated within its kirkyard cemetery just to the west of the village on the very edge of the sea. It has a very dramatic setting, perched on a low rock, reached over a small valley with a burn. As seen from most directions it has the sea as a backdrop. A more modern cemetery stands further westwards on the upper slopes of the little hill. This contains the local war memorial. Standing at the extreme west end of this a romantic ruin can be viewed across fields, again perched on the sea edge. It is often said that St Monans is the church nearest the sea in the whole of Scotland. This is where the scenes were shot for The Railway Man film starring Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman. Scenes for the movie of the best-selling novel by Eric Lomax. Although I now live in Perthshire, I was raised in the East Neuk of Fife. Fife Coastal Walking Path passes through St Monans, it is a Scottish long distance walking footpath that runs from Kincardine to Newburgh. It runs for 117 miles along the coastline of Fife and passes through many seaside towns and villages including Anstruther and Cellardyke. The path would take around one week to walk completely from end to end. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day. Find things to see and do in Scotland where you are always welcome.
