Tour Scotland short 4K travel video, with Scottish music, of Garvamore Bridge on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit to the Badenoch Highlands. A two arched masonry road bridge over the River Spey in its upper reaches, the Garvamore Bridge lies a half a mile North West of Garvamore in Badenoch district of Highland Council Area. The structure dates from 1731 and was the work of the notable builder of military roads, General George Wade. The bridge is heavily buttressed and has been strengthened by iron ribs. George Wade, born 1673, died 14 March 1748, was a British Army officer who served in the Nine Years' War, War of the Spanish Succession, Jacobite rising of 1715 and War of the Quadruple Alliance before leading the construction of barracks, bridges and proper roads in Scotland. He went on to be a military commander during the War of the Austrian Succession and Commander in Chief of the Forces during the Jacobite rising of 1745. Badenoch, from Scottish Gaelic: BĂ ideanach, meaning " drowned land " is a traditional district which today forms part of Badenoch and Strathspey, an area of Highland Council, in Scotland, bounded on the north by the Monadhliath Mountains, on the east by the Cairngorms and Braemar, on the south by Atholl and the Grampians, and on the west by Lochaber. The capital of Badenoch is Kingussie. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.
