Tour Scotland 4K travel video of sleet falling on Snowdrops and St Peter's Well near Fingask Castle on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit to Carse of Gowrie, Perthshire. Off the main drive, in a sheltered glen, is the Well of St. Peter with the Linn-ma-Gray stream flowing beside it. On a stone above the well are the appropriate lines: Drink, weary pilgrim, drink, And bless St. Peter's well, Unscathed by sun or scorching ray, Or frost or thawing swell. Galanthus is a small genus of about 20 species of bulbous herbaceous plants in the family Amaryllidaceae, subfamily Amaryllidoideae. Most flower in winter, before the vernal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. From the Latin name meaning ' milk flower ', these tiny green and white flowers are amongst the first blossoms to emerge in the new year. In the mid 19th century soldiers in the Crimean War brought them back from the battlefields to plant in their gardens. Today they thrive throughout Scotland, in gardens, damp woods and on river banks. At locations throughout Scotland, you’ll find snowdrop after snowdrop, bringing brightness and magic to your day. The date for astronomical spring is Sunday 20th March 2022, ending on Tuesday 21st June, while by the meteorological calendar, spring will start on Tuesday 1st March. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.
