Tour Scotland 4K short Winter travel video clip of the River South Esk near Cortachy on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit to Angus. The South Esk Scottish Gaelic: Easg Dheas, rises in the Grampian Mountains at Loch Esk in Glen Doll and flows through Glen Clova to Strathmore at Cortachy, three miles North of Kirriemuir. Its course takes it past Brechin and enters the North Sea at Montrose. The river gives its name to the title of Earl of Southesk, held by the Carnegie family. Earl of Southesk is a title in the Peerage of Scotland. It was created in 1633 for Sir David Carnegie, The earl of Southesk also holds the Scottish feudal title of Baron of Kinnaird and is a baronet in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia, Canada. Kinnaird Castle in Brechin, has been the home of the earls of Southesk for several hundred years. The first earl of Southesk's great great grandson, the fifth earl, was involved in the Jacobite rising of 1715. The earldom and minor titles are now subsidiary titles of the Dukedom of Fife, with the title of earl of Southesk used as a courtesy title by the duke's eldest son and heir apparent. Officially, the Scottish winter runs from the 21st of December through to the 20th March.. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.
