Mary Queen of Scots escaped from the Lochleven Castle in a boat rowed by a castle page boy and she was met on the shore by loyal supporters who escorted her to safety. Many royals were guests, as opposed to prisoners, at Lochleven Castle, including King Robert Bruce. The tower house where Mary was held is one of Scotland’s oldest, built in the 1300s. It was here that she suffered a miscarriage and was forced to abdicate in favour of her son, King James VI. On a previous visit, as a guest, Mary had had one of her long religious debates with Protestant reformer John Knox here. Autumn leaf color or colour is a phenomenon that affects the normally green leaves of many deciduous trees and shrubs by which they take on, during a few weeks in the Autumn season, various shades of red, yellow, purple, black, orange, pink, magenta, blue and brown.
