Tour Scotland early Autumn travel video, with Scottish fiddle music, of a road trip drive on a single track road, with passing places, behind a camper van on ancestry, genealogy, history visit to Lochan Sgeireach, a small loch in Assynt, Scottish Gaelic: Asainn, in the Sutherland Highlands. This road is only wide enough for one vehicle. It has special passing places. If you see a vehicle coming towards you, or the driver behind wants to overtake, try to pull into a passing place on your left, or wait opposite a passing place on your right. Give way to vehicles coming uphill whenever you can. If necessary, reverse until you reach a passing place to let the other vehicle pass. When driving in Scotland, slow down and enjoy the trip.
Contrary to popular belief, the right to roam in Scotland or the Land Reform Act doesn’t extend to motorized vehicles. Technically, you can’t just park anywhere overnight. The scenery in these parts is just spectacular. There are plenty of places to pull over to take in the views so use them. Just take care not to obstruct traffic behind you. The licence you need to drive a camper van or motorhome depends on your age and the vehicle’s maximum authorised mass (MAM). This is the vehicle’s weight plus the maximum load it can carry. To drive a motorhome with a MAM of between 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes, you need a category C1 licence. To drive a motorhome with a MAM of over 7.5 tonnes, you need a category C licence.
