Tour Scotland short travel video clip of Starlings taking a bath on visit to my cottage garden in Scone by Perth, Perthshire. Starlings can often be found in gardens, parks and farmland. Starlings are one of the most common garden birds and are very sociable, so you’re highly likely to see a group of them bathing together. Place a bird feeder in your garden and you are sure to attract a starling or three. Nearly all birds bathe frequently in water to keep their feathers in tip-top condition, though Starlings, Blackbirds and House Sparrows are the ones we are most likely to see. During the summer, bathing in water also helps the bird to keep cool. This species of bird is widespread and abundant across the United Kingdom, except for the Highlands of Scotland. Famous composer Mozart had a pet starling which could sing part of his Piano Concerto in G Major. The common starling or European starling, Sturnus vulgaris, also known simply as the starling in Great Britain and Ireland, is a medium-sized passerine bird in the starling family
