Lord Colonsay Monument Scalasaig On History Visit To Island Of Colonsay Inner Hebrides Scotland

Tour Scotland travel video clip, with Scottish music, of the Lord Colonsay monument on the top of Cnoc na Faire Mòr, hill, above and to the South of the main village of Scalasaig, Scottish Gaelic: Sgalasaig, located on the east coast, on ancestry, genealogy, history visit to Island Of Colonsay, Inner Hebrides. The monument was erected in by local people in memory of the laird, Duncan McNeill, 6th of Colonsay, as he did not remove any of his tenants during the Highland Clearances. It has superb views over Scalasaig and across to Jura and Islay. The island has previously been owned by the MacDonalds, the Campbells and the MacNeills and was acquired by Lord Strathcona in 1905. The surname MacNeill was first found in on the islands of Barra, Gigha, Colonsay, and Oronsay. According to traditional records in 1049, Niall, a direct descendent of King Niall of the Nine Hostages, landed in Barra and founded the Clan MacNeill of Barra. Over the years, MacNeill has been spelled MacNeil, MacNeill, MacNeal, MacNeilage, MacNeale, MacNeall, MacNeille, MacNeel, MacNiel, MacGreal, Mcneil, Mcneill, McNeal, Mcneal, Mcneall and many more.
