Winter Snow Swilcan Bridge Old Golf Course On Visit To St Andrews Fife Scotland

Tour Scotland Winter 4K travel video of snow by the Swilcan Bridge, or Swilken Bridge, which spans the Swilcan Burn on visit to the old golf course in St Andrews, Fife. This is a famous small stone bridge on St Andrews Links golf course. The bridge spans the Swilcan Burn between the first and eighteenth fairways on the old course, and has itself become an important cultural icon in the sport of golf. The bridge is extremely small; at its farthest extent it measures about 30 feet long, eight feet wide and six feet tall, in the style of a simple Roman arch. It was originally built at least 700 years ago to help shepherds get livestock across. The Swilcan Bridge, or Swilcanth as it was known, was not originally called the Swilcan Bridge. It was the Golfers’ Bridge and had been for hundreds of years. The weather forecast suggests there is a risk of freezing rain over the high ground in Scotland and northern England, with further snow in the Scottish hills, before turning to rain as the warm air takes hold. the golf course is presently closed due to the Coronavirus Pandemic All photographs are copyright of Sandy Stevenson, Tour Scotland, and may not be used without permission.
