Tour Scotland travel video, with Scottish music, of the Nunnery on ancestry visit to Isle of Iona, Inner Hebrides. This is one of the oldest and most important religious centres in Western Europe. The Iona Nunnery was an Augustinian convent established sometime after the foundation of the nearby Benedictine monastery in 1203. Bethóc, daughter of Somerled, was first prioress. After the Reformation, the priory was dissolved and reduced to a ruin. This was one of the two Augustinian nunneries in Scotland, St. Leonards Nunnery located at Perth, Perthshire, being the other. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.
