Autumn River Tay In Spate By The Old Bridge On Visit To Perth Perthshire Scotland

Tour Scotland 4K Autumn early evening travel video of the River Tay in spate after Storm Alex by Smeaton's Bridge, also known as the old bridge, on visit to Perth, Perthshire. The River Tay, Scottish Gaelic: Tatha, is the longest river in Scotland and the seventh longest in the United Kingdom. The Tay originates in western Scotland on the slopes of Ben Lui, Scottish Gaelic: Beinn Laoigh, then flows easterly across the Highlands, through Loch Dochart, Loch Iubhair and Loch Tay, then continues east through Strathtay in the centre of Scotland, then southeasterly through Perth, where it becomes tidal, to its mouth at the Firth of Tay, south of Dundee. The Tay is internationally renowned for its salmon fishing and is one of the best salmon rivers in the United Kingdom, and western Europe, attracting anglers from all over the world. The lowest ten miles of the Tay, including prestigious beats like Taymount or Islamouth, provides most of the cream of the Tay. John Smeaton, architect of the Eddystone Lighthouse built this at Perth. Smeaton's bridge was completed in 1771 and is generally known as Perth Old Bridge All photographs are copyright of Sandy Stevenson, Tour Scotland, and may not be used without permission.
