Bon Scott of AC/DC was born in nearby Forfar and lived in Kirriemuir for a short time from 1947 until 1950 when his family emigrated to Australia, where the family lived in the suburb of Sunshine for four years before moving to Freemantle, Western Australia.
The surname Scott was first found in Roxburghshire, where a family seat was held on the lands of Ballendan at the head of the Ale water in that county. They descended from Uchtredus Scott who held the lands before 1107; he is on record as a witness to the foundation charter of Selkirk in 1120. Another early record is of Henricus le Scotte, who witnessed a charter by David Earl of Strathearn around 1195. By 1200, this great Clan controlled the borderlands of the Middle Marches of West Teviotdale, Ewesdale, Liddesdale, Buccleuch and Balwearie.

Peter Scott, a Scottish convict from Aberdeen, was transported aboard the the ship Asia on July 29th, 1823, settling in Van Diemen's Land, Australia; William Scott, a Scottish convict from Perth, Perthshire, was transported aboard the Asia on July 29th, 1823, settling in Van Diemen's Land, Australia; Janet Scott landed in Auckland, New Zealand in 1839; Peter Scott landed in Wellington, New Zealand in 1840; Elizabeth Scott landed in Newfoundland in 1665; Joseph Scott landed in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in 1749; Edward Scott arrived in Virginia, America, in 1702; Anne Scott, arrived in Virginia, America, in 1703; Richard Scott landed in Virginia, America, in 1705; Edward Scott, landed in Annapolis, Maryland, America, in 1716; Janet Scott, landed in New England, America, in 1724.
