Old photograph of a cafe, church and people on Main Street in Bannockburn village located just South of Stirling, Scotland. The town is named after the Bannock Burn, a burn, small stream, running through the town before flowing into the River Forth. The surname Downie was first found in the parish of Monikie in Angus, Gaelic: Aonghas. Downie has been written as Downey, Downie, Downy, MacIldowney, MacIldownie, MacDowney, MacDownie, O'Downey and many more.
