Old Photograph Alfred Hughes With His Wife And Children In Ardeonaig Scotland

Old photograph of Alfred Hughes with his wife and children in Ardeonaig on the South banks of Loch Tay, Perthshire, Scotland. When boats ran on the loch they stopped at Ardeonaig, where coal was delivered and passengers could disembark. There was a ferry service as well as the minister came by boat to conduct church services. The ancestors of the bearers of the Hughes surname were Welsh Brythonic Celts. However, their name came to Britain with the Norman invasion; Hughes is derived from the Old French personal name Hughe, also spelled Hue. This name was made popular by the exploits of several saints including: St. Hugh of Lincoln, born 1140, died 1200, who was born in Burgundy, France and established the first Carthusian monastery in England; as well as St. Hugh of Cluny, born 1024, died 1109.
