Old photograph of the forestairs to Hal o' the Wynd House in Perth, Perthshire, Scotland. A forestair is an open outside stair leading to the first floor of a building. Hal o' the Wynd House is modest harled mansion of five bays and three storeys which dates from the early 18th century. It features in the novel The Fair Maid of Perth by Sir Walter Scott, born 1771, died 1832. Hal o' the Wynd was the nickname of Henry Gow, a burly blacksmith and armourer who was the lover of the fictitious Catherine Glover in Scott's novel.
