Old Photograph Linthaugh Bridge Scotland


Old photograph of Linthaugh Bridge near Stonehouse, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. Linthaugh bridge,spans the river Avon a tributary of the River Clyde. It was built in the late 18th century to replace a bridge swept away in floods of 1771. The County and local landowners paid for the new bridge. This and many other bridges were built by Irish immigrants during an era of road building and communication improvements.
