Old Photograph Longhill Avenue Ayr Scotland

Old photograph of tree lined Longhill Avenue by Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland. Ayr began in the late 1190s with King William the Lion's castle and the establishment of a royal burgh and market town in 1205, becoming a key port for trade and fishing. It grew as a strategic location and military stronghold, notably hosting Robert the Bruce's first Scottish Parliament in 1315. Later, the Industrial Revolution brought coal mining and industry, transforming Ayr into a thriving tourist destination by the mid-1800s, which continues today due to its long sandy beach and the inspiration of Robert Burns.
