" It is a town in West Dunbartonshire, on the north bank of the River Clyde where the River Leven flows into the Clyde estuary. Dumbarton was the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Alclud, and later the county town of Dunbartonshire. Dumbarton Castle, on top of Dumbarton Rock, dominates the area. Dumbarton was a Royal burgh between 1222 and 1975. Upon their marriage on 19 May 2018, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle became the Earl and Countess of Dumbarton. Dumbarton emerged from the 19th century as a centre for shipbuilding, glassmaking, and whisky production. However these industries have since declined, and Dumbarton today is increasingly a commuter town for Glasgow. David Byrne was born in Dumbarton, to parents Tom, from Lambhill, Glasgow, and Emma. He is the elder of two children. Two years after his birth, his parents moved to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and then to Arbutus, Maryland, in the United States, when he was 8 or 9 years old. His father worked as an electronics engineer. David Byrne was the founding member, principal songwriter, and lead singer and guitarist of the American new wave band Talking Heads, active between 1975 and 1991. The Cutty Sark Clipper Ship, 1869; was completed by the Denny Shipyard in Dumbarton, after the liquidation of her contracted builders, Scott and Linton; preserved in a dry dock at Greenwich, London, England.
