Old Travel Blog Photograph William James Allan Glasgow Scotland

Old travel Blog photograph of William James Allan from Govan, Glasgow, Scotland. The Allan surname can be found in a variety of forms, including: Allen, Alen, Alleyn, Alleyne, Allain, Alan, Allan, Allin, Allon, Allans and FitzAlan. It is thought to derive from the Gaelic " ailin ", little rock, a diminutive of " ail ", rock, and was introduced into England and later to Ireland by the Breton followers of William the Conqueror. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Geoffrey Alein, which was dated 1234, in Cambridgeshire, during the reign of King Henry 111. Blog post of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to travel and visit one day.
