Old Travel Blog Photograph St Ninian's Cathedral Perth Perthshire Scotland

Old travel Blog photograph of St Ninian's Cathedral in Perth, Perthshire, Scotland. The cathedral was built on the site of an older Dominican monastery and was one of the first to be built in Britain since the Reformation, both St. Columb's in Derry in Northern Ireland and St. Paul's in London, England, are older, having been consecrated in 1633 and 1710 respectively. St Ninian's was consecrated in 1850. It was designed by the English architect William Butterfield. Former provosts of the cathedral include the Very Reverend Edward Bowles Knottesford Fortescue; he became Provost of St Ninian’s Cathedral in 1851 but resigned in 1871 when he converted to Roman Catholicism.
