Tour Scotland video of the Lieutenant Richard Louis Caddell Memorial stained glass window in Carriden Parish Church on ancestry visit to Bo'ness, West Lothian, Scotland. The first son and eldest of three children, Richard was born on 2 May 1898, to Lewis Irving Cadell and Mary Louisa Finlay Cadell of Brae Lodge, Murrayfield, Edinburgh. His sister Katherine was born in 1905 and younger brother Gilbert was 9 years old when Richard died; he subsequently followed into the same House at Charterhouse. Richard was one of four boys from his House who joined the Rifle Corps in OQ1912, the total strength at that time being 365 boys, and achieved the rank of Sergeant. He was a House Monitor in his final year. He passed into RMA Woolwich in November 1916 and was commissioned into the Royal Engineers, 98th Field Coy. He died of wounds received in action near Rheims.
