Old Photograph Heatherfield Hotel Oban Scotland

Old photograph of the Heatherfield Hotel in Oban, Scotland. The house has an interesting history having been built in 1875 and named St John’s House, it was owned by John Stuart McCaig the philanthropic banker who commissioned McCaig’s Tower. The Tower was never completed as John died in 1902 and his sister Catherine, who inherited Heatherfield, contested the will resulting in John’s wishes for the Tower being unfulfilled. John was the second son of Malcom McCaig and Margaret Stewart and was born at Clachan, Isle of Lismore, Argyll, on 11 July 1823 and baptised at St Moluag's Cathedral, Lismore.
