Old Photograph Wylie Barr And Ross Bakery Paisley Road Glasgow Scotland

Old photograph of the Wylie Barr and Ross Bakery at 365 Paisley Road in Glasgow, Scotland. The premises was also known as the Sunshine Bakery in 1918. The Company went into voluntary liquidation in 1953. The factory was taken over by Scribbans-Kemp, Scotland, Limited.

The Barr surname of Scottish origin is locational from two places so called, in Ayrshire and Renfrewshire, and derives from the Gaelic " barr ", height or hill. There is a Middle English word " barre ", with the same meaning, thus it is thought that this name could be topographical for one living near a place of that description. In Scotland Albyn de Barr was baillie of Ayr in 1340. Anne Barr married John Bickerton on October 21st, 1731 at Christchurch, Greyfriars, Newgate in London, England.
