Old photograph of a railway accident in Burntisland, Fife, Scotland. On 14th April 1914, at 4.50 a.m. the overnight express train from London to Aberdeen, after passing Burntisland Station, came into collision with a Carlisle to Dundee goods train, which was being backed out of the way of the passenger express, over a cross over road, from the down to the up line. The driver of the express, John Dickson, and his fireman, William McDonald, were killed in the incident after being pinned under the wreckage, while 12 passengers were injured, four seriously, though all made full recoveries.
