Old photograph of a husband and wife white lime washing a cottage in Lower Largo, East Neuk of Fife, Scotland. Lime harling was the most effective method of weatherproofing solid masonry walls. The subsequent application of limewash coats consolidated the harling and provided the traditional decorative finish.
