Old Photograph Balkerach Street Doune Scotland

Old photograph of cottages, houses and people on Balkerach Street in Doune, Scotland. Bonnie Prince Charlie passed through Doune in 1745. Doune was also famous for its manufacture of pistols, but this eventually ceased due to the competition of manufacturers in, for example, Birmingham, England, where production was cheaper. Throughout the parish the Clan names most often met with are Campbell, Stewart, Ferguson, Morrison, McAlpine, McLaren, MacDonald, Mathieson and Cameron. Doune has often been used as a filming location, most famously for Monty Python and the Holy Grail which was filmed at Doune Castle. The castle has also been used for major TV series, most notably Ivanoe, Game of Thrones and Outlander. History Blog post of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to travel and visit one day.
