Old photograph of the opening of the Pedestrian Bridge over the Ettrick Water in Selkirk, Scottish Borders, Scotland. The crossing, linking South Bridge Street and North Bridge Street, became famous when it was revealed that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle had written a short Sherlock Holmes story in 1904 to raise funds for a replacement bridge after the Auld Wooden Brig was washed away in a flood two years earlier.
