Old Photograph Saeva Ness Lighthouse Scotland

Old photograph of Saeva Ness lighthouse on Helliar Holm, an uninhabited island off the coast of Shapinsay, Orkney Islands, Scotland. This Scottish lighthouse was built in 1893 by brothers David A. Stevenson, born 1854, died 1938, and Charles Stevenson, born 1855, died 1950, of the famous lighthouse building dynasty. The light is visible for 15 nautical miles. It was automated in 1967. Helliar Holm is a tidal island that used to be connected to Shapinsay. It is still possible to walk across from the mainland during very low tides. The island also has the ruins of a broch, cairn and chapel.
