Scotland. A late 15th or early 16th century, now ruined, castle occupied until 1671. The castle stands on the north eastern shore of the Isle of Raasay. According to tradition it was built by Raasay's first Macleod chief Calum MacGillechaluim. It provided a strategic base for a dynasty of reiving seadogs to control their mainland possessions and the Inner Sound.
