Tour Scotland Video McCorquodale Stained Glass Windows St Conan's Kirk
Tour Scotland travel video of the McCorquodale stained glass windows in St Fillan's Aisle on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit and trip to St Conan's Kirk by Loch Awe, Argyll.. This window was erected in memory of a friend of the Blythswood family. Unlike any of the other stained-glass windows, this was included in the other and smaller building. It was originally installed on the opposite side of the church, but the background of hillside and trees did not do full justice to the stained glass, and so, when the larger scheme was put in hand, the opportunity was taken to move it so that it should overlook the loch. The window consists of three lights. The first shows the Warrior, who has put on the whole Armour of God and bears the Shield of Faith. His faith is so strong that he does not even look at the fiery darts coming up through brambles and smoke. The opposite light shows the Sword of the Spirit piercing evil creatures; while the centre light, " I have finished my course, " depicts angels taking from the Warrior's head the Helmet of Salvation and showing the weeds and smoke at his feet turning to roses.

Tour Scotland Autumn Video Trees Princes Street Gardens Edinburgh
Tour Scotland Autumn travel video of trees in Princes Street Gardens on history visit and trip to Edinburgh. Princes Street Gardens is a public park in the centre of Edinburgh, Scotland, in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle. The Gardens were created in two phases in the 1770s and 1820s following the long draining of the Nor Loch and building of the New Town, beginning in the 1760s. The loch, situated on the north side of the town, was originally an artificial creation forming part of its medieval defences and made expansion northwards difficult. The water was habitually polluted from sewage draining downhill from the Old Town. In 1846 the railway was built in the valley to connect the Edinburgh-Glasgow line at Haymarket with the new northern terminus of the North British line from Berwick upon Tweed at Waverley Station

Tour Scotland Autumn Photograph Video Scott Monument Edinburgh
Tour Scotland Autumn photograph of the Sir Walter Scott monument in Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Scott Monument is a Victorian Gothic monument to Scottish author Sir Walter Scott. It is the largest monument to a writer in the world. Walter Scott was born in Edinburgh on August 15, 1771. His father was a farmer and his mother, Anne Rutherford, was the daughter of Dr. John Rutherford, who was one of the founders of the medical school of Edinburgh. Walter was one of ten children. He spent much time with his grandparents, but it was Aunt Jenny who took a special interest in him and influenced him to write. His visits to an uncle, Dr. Rutherford, professor of botany at the University of Edinburgh, brought him into contact with scholarly people. His first novel, Waverly, was published anonymously. His publishers persuaded him to allow further novels to be designated as " by the author of Waverly," and for this reason some of his novels were called the " Waverly Novels. " Although he published biographies of Swift and Dryden and some history, as well as poems and novels, his chief claim to distinction is his contribution to Romanticism and the historical novel. His popularity, both socially and as a writer, was almost unparalleled. He was married in 1797 to Margaret Charlotte Carpenter, who bore him three sons and two daughters. Scott received his title and baronetcy from King George IV in the spring of 1820. He died, Sir Walter Scott, in 1832.
