Tour Scotland travel photography of a Carmichael Celtic Cross gravestone in the churchyard on ancestry, genealogy, history visit and trip to Ardler, Perthshire, Scotland. The village was originally named Washington in honor of George Washington, the first President of the United States. Following the establishment of a formal parish in 1885, the name Ardler permanently superseded Washington. Peter Carmichael of Arthurstone was born in 1899 Fife and rose to become the chief mechanical driver behind Dundee's booming flax and textile trade. As a senior partner in the massive Baxter Brothers and Company Limited he was a brilliant engineer who patented several major manufacturing inventions, including a hackling machine and a rotary gill. He was a warm, deeply religious man who frequently wrestled with how to balance his commercial interests with the genuine well-being of his labourers
