Tour Scotland photograph of an old Crofters cottage near Lochinver, Scotland. There are 17,700 crofts left in Scotland, all concentrated in the so called seven counties in the Highlands and Islands. Most are owned or rented by crofters who double up in other forms of employment, repairing the roads, fishing, forestry and tourism, apart from the basic business of crofting.
